Feature Friday: Meet Jenny!

December 16, 2016, by Katie {The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life}

Happy Friday, Ya'll!!  For today's Friday Feature we are featuring a fun Southern gal, who I once had the pleasure of meeting in real life!  Jenny, who blogs life over at Much ado about Jenny, is super sweet, fabulously stylish and a heck of a lot of fun!  Read on to find out more about this sales gal pal!

  • Tell us a little bit about your family life.
    • So my family is a little bit different than what some might call traditional. I say that because being single, I just don’t regard my family as just blood. I have a sister who I adore more than words, a super amazing BIL and of course I have aunts, uncles and a bunch of cousins that I see around the holiday but my family is made up of a ton of my friends. I have an unbelievable network of buddies, compadres, gal pals, lady friends, partners in crime, allies, chums, cronies, tribe---whatever you want to call them they are my people, my “family” and the people that I love more than my luggage (I’m obsessed with Steel Magnolias too).

  • Other than blogging, what do you do for a living?
    • I’m a sales gal! And I LOVE what I do! Right out of college I started working for a huge multi-billion dollar company that had 1,000’s of employees. My college degree was in Sociology (umm, what do you do with that?) so I started out in a Customer Service position and transitioned, quite naturally, to a sales role that allowed me to travel all across the country, took me to Maryland for about a year and then brought me back to the great state of North Carolina. After nearly 13 years, I decided I needed to step out of my comfort zone, sell a different product and meet some new people so I began working for a much smaller company (like less than 100 employees small) where I had, what I consider to be, the worse two years of my professional career because I worked for Satan himself (like for reals, the director of Bad Bosses should have used my manager as their main character). Anywhoodle, after what felt like eternity, I stumbled upon an opportunity at another small company where I’ve been at for the last two and a half years and I love everything about it. But long story short (sorry), I’m in sales and I’m really good at it!

  • How would you describe yourself in three words?
    • Funny
    • Confident
    • Pretty damn awesome (see confident for explanation)

  • What inspired you to start blogging?
    • Wowza, well…I wrote my first blog post on January 1, 2014. I actually just went back and read that post and laughed out loud because it was so simple and so perfect and I wasn’t taking it serious at all. But it is still all of the things that I want to write about now: my friends, my quest for love and being the healthiest me I can be. But back to the question at hand…I had been reading and commenting on blogs for years. However, at least 97% of the blogs I was reading were all married mommas who were all super deduper awesome but that I had very little in common with. I found a few single girl blogs that made me laugh out loud. I could relate to these gals struggles and life moments and eating alone and dealing with family members at Christmas time asking where your boyfriend is…blah blah blah. So I thought, “hmm, maybe I could do this too” and that’s just what happened. I needed an outlet, a way to get all these crazy thoughts out of my head and maybe, just maybe someone would read it and say “YES girl, I know exactly what you are feeling.”

  • In terms of blogging, what is the greatest challenge? Greatest reward?
    • This is an easy one! Great challenge---being consistent. Greatest reward---the friends you make through this process!

  • What is something that people might be surprised to know about you?
    • I actually thought really hard about this question and couldn’t come up with one single thing so…I asked my friends what they thought. After filtering out some of the really dirty, obnoxious things that are all still very true but that I would never share in a public forum (hey, give me a break I may run for President one day) here’s what we came up with.
      • I actually don’t like cooking.
      • I didn’t grow up celebrating Halloween and Christmas the same way other kids did (think no trick-or-treating and no believing in Santa Claus).
      • I have a horrible potty mouth. I’m not proud of it but it is what it is.

  • What hobbies do you have other than blogging?
    • Traveling, throwing parties, paddle boarding, hanging out with my tribe, loving on my 15 year old poodles, trying out new restaurants…and dating, is that a hobby?

  • What is your greatest unfulfilled ambition?
    • Getting married! But let me preface that answer with something…I love my life—singleness and all. I love not having to share my space or being on a schedule or having to tell someone else what I’m doing or traveling whenever I want to or choosing what I want to eat when I want to eat or having the remote all to myself (you are probably saying well, duh, no wonder she is single!!!) BUT I really do want the companionship of a relationship and the simple things like having someone around just to watch TV with or tell my day about. Oh and most importantly, I would like to have someone that I can make out with anytime I want!
It was so great getting to know Jenny!  Be sure to follow her blog and find her on instagram @nc30grits.

Happy Weekend!
