Feature Friday: Meet Michael Ann!

December 09, 2016, by Katie {The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life}

Happy Friday!  That wasn't such a long week, huh?  Hope this week finds you in full holiday swing and ready to enjoy what the weekend has in store.  It's time for another Feature Friday here at TBB.  Today we are introducing you to Michael Ann, who blogs over at Out and Back!  She's a good friend of The Blended Blog and we're so happy to have her today!  Read on to get to know more about this talented lady!

Take it away Michael Ann...

Tell us a little bit about your family life.

I live near Savannah, Georgia with my sweet husband, Gene.  We've been married 27 years!  Thirteen of those years were in Europe thanks to his career in the Air Force.  (Yeah, that was pretty groovy!)  We have two adult children.  Our daughter, Cassandra, lives with us, and our son, Ethan, is stationed (Air Force) near Anchorage, Alaska.  Add a few cats, a dog, three totally different work schedules, and a whole lot of crazy, and that's our family life!

Other than blogging, what do you do for a living?

I'm a part-time admin/financial secretary for a church in our town.  (Not the church we go to; a different church.  It works best that way!)  I work there three mornings a week.  During the spring and summer I also work as a consultant for Sonlight Curriculum.  I get to travel around the country to homeschool conventions and talk to families about homeschooling!

How would you describe yourself in three words?

I can't describe ANYTHING in three words, so I asked for input from some special folks!  My daughter says: Outgoing.  Bubbly.  Enthusiastic.  My sister said:  Gracious.  Chef extraordinaire.  (But she is currently on pain meds, so take that for what it's worth!)  My mom adds:  Strong.  (As in strong willed?!?  Hmmmmm.)  We are all rather wordy, so there's another word to describe me:  Wordy!

What inspired you to start blogging?

Story.  I'm all about story.  I like telling stories, and I like reading them.  Since I enjoy writing and I was looking for something to exercise my brain, blogging seemed a good thing to do.

What hobbies do you have other than blogging?

Reading!  I love to read!  Cooking and baking too.  And traveling, camping (in a tent), and kayaking.  That's why my blog focuses on these things!  I love them, and I enjoy talking about them.

What is the title of the last book you read? Would you recommend it?

I recently finished the novel Still Alice by Lisa Genova, and I highly recommend it.  It is exquisitely written.  This book tells the story of a woman who is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, so it may not be a good fit for some people due to triggers about all that comes with this horrid disease.  In a lighter vein, I just read Serafina and the Black Cape and Serafina and the Twisted Staff by Robert Beatty.  They are Young AdultFiction, and they were great, suspenseful reads!

Do you like to dine out or stay in and cook dinner?

Oooh!  That's a hard one!  I really enjoy both!  Cleaning up AFTER I cook is the thing I do NOT like.  I'm a messy cook like my grandmother was, much to my mother's dismay!  (She really did try to teach me to clean up as I go.)  I feel compelled to say that Grandma might've been messy, but she was an amazing cook.  Draw your own inferences!

What is your favorite style season and why?

Autumn, for sure!  Here in Coastal Georgia we have to wait forever for the temperature to drop enough for us to wear autumn clothes, but then we get to wear them through the winter.  I enjoy layering and having fun with color, textures, and patterns.  And of course Autumn style means BOOTS!  Those are always fun.  Autumn colors are the most flattering colors for me, and autumn styles allow me to more easily work with my body shape.  I feel the most confident and pretty in autumn fashion.

Loved Getting to know you better, Michael Ann!
