Tasty Tuesday Link Up: Comfort Foods

January 16, 2018, by Deena @Shoes to Shiraz

Hey friends- Deena from shoestoshiraz here talking food with you today.  I picked the theme of comfort food because we're in the dead of winter up here in Saskatchewan and when you've had a couple weeks in the -40s, thoughts automatically turn to cozy pick me ups, like foods.

Common winter recipes around here are stews, chilis, hearty soups, spaghetti, lasagnes and bread.  Well in our house anyway.  I decided to share my mom's lasagna recipe with you today because she's not here to stop me- laying on a beach in Mexico with a Mai Tai in hand..she has better things to do than worry if I'm sharing the family's best culinary secrets.

Years ago when I left for university, she made me a cookbook of her go-to recipes and the lasagne was one of them.

Her recipe calls for 1 19 oz tin of meat sauce, but I don't like buying meat sauce and make it instead, using her recipe for spaghetti sauce.  Sadly, I don't have an actual recipe as this one has become an art...play around with it a bit using the following:

meat sauce: garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, basil, 1 package onion soup mix, 1 can tomato soup, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 can tomato paste.

Once the meat sauce is made, I just layer according to her recipe and voilà, I have a delicious meal that warms up the entire house.

What are your go-to comfort foods?
